The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is continuously enhancing its support for participants in accessing housing services promptly and consistently.

The NDIA may allocate funding for reasonable and necessary home and living supports if they cannot be met through mainstream, community, informal, or other means.

What does the NDIS provide funding for?

It’s crucial to understand that the NDIS doesn’t operate or own any housing facilities. However, it may provide funding for the following:

  • Capacity building to help participants live independently in the community, including support to enhance living skills, money and household management, social and communication skills, and behavioral management.
  • Capacity building support to aid participants in developing independence skills.
  • Home modifications to the participant’s own residence or a private rental property, and in some cases, social housing, on a case-by-case basis.
  • Assistive technology to enable participants to remain independent.
  • Support and assistance for daily tasks or personal care, such as showering and dressing.
  • Domestic assistance where participants are unable to perform these tasks due to their disability, such as cleaning and laundry. Additionally, the NDIS may contribute to specialized accommodation costs for participants with specific disability-related needs.

For further details on the types of home and living supports funded by the NDIS, please refer to the “Home and Living Supports We Fund” guide.

How to request funding?

If participants require home and living supports, they must complete the Supporting Evidence Form – Home and Living, available in both Word and PDF formats. This form should be submitted within 100 days of a participant’s plan end date, either during a scheduled plan reassessment, with a Change of Details or Change of Situation form, or with a Request for a Review of a Decision form.

Where do I send the form once completed?

Once completed, the form can be submitted via email to enquiries@ndis.gov.au, by mail to NDIA, GPO Box 700, Canberra ACT 2601, or in person at the local NDIS or partner office. If submitting before a scheduled plan reassessment, it’s crucial to do so within 100 days to ensure all necessary information is available early on.

Participants should include all relevant information, including assessments or letters from healthcare professionals, to support their request for home and living supports. If participants have previously submitted a home and living supports form, no further action is required, as the request will still be processed and considered.
