Ayyub’s Story

Living in a safe place that enables independence can be life-changing.

Before moving into his SDA Liverty Housing apartment, Ayyub faced significant challenges. Previously, Ayyub lived in private housing with other family members. He struggled in an environment that was not designed for his mobility needs. He had limited space making it difficult to manoeuvre in his wheelchair. This made daily tasks turn into a constant struggle. The lack of accessibility and support made daily life difficult and stressful.  
 
This all changed when Ayyub moved into his new apartment with Liverty Housing. The impact and relief were almost immediate.  

The apartment is not only accessible, but has been customised to meet Ayyub’s needs, ensuring his comfort and peace of mind. Wide doorways, assistive technology, automated doors and smart home controls allow for more independence, reducing the stress of daily routines and helping Ayyub to manage tasks more easily. Ayyub is now able to move around freely and enjoy a new level of comfort. The physical changes were paired with emotional relief, a sense of security and peace that had been missing from his previous home.  

For Ayyub, the sense of belonging and safety in the neighbourhood was a welcome change.  “The area is peaceful and has all the necessary amenities nearby, like shops, parks, and public transport. It’s also community oriented, so I feel a sense of belonging and safety here.” This has made getting around easier and helped build a connection to the community.

The process of finding Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) can be challenging and overwhelming. However, as Ayyub shares, ‘The process was initially overwhelming because finding the right place took time. However, once my NDIS support coordinator worked really hard and connected with Liverty Housing, it became much smoother.’ Once Ayyub connected with Liverty Housing, things began to fall into place. The application process became much smoother, and he was able to secure a space that truly met his needs.
