Outdoor life near Lake Macquarie SDA Housing
Move into our Specialist Disability Accommodation at Belmont, Lake Macquarie and get ready to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. Less than half an hour from Newcastle in the waterfront town of Belmont, this SDA Housing is perfectly located to enjoy this beautiful area.
The Hunter region of NSW is well known for its natural beauty, and amongst the leading attractions is the Lake Macquarie area.
Well loved by locals and visitors alike, this vast expanse attracts water enthusiasts of all kinds, including those who love swimming, sailing, fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and more.
Lake Macquarie even has a designated public swimming enclosure, the Belmont Baths. This accessibly designed, 3150 sq metre netted swimming area allows people with restricted mobility easy access to the Lake in a supported and safe environment, with ramp access, accessible toilets and even an amphibious wheelchair.
Those who prefer to stay on dry land will delight in the picnic areas like Green Point Foreshore Reserve, nearby walking trails, beaches and nature reserves including Redhead, Nine Mile, Blacksmiths and Naru Beaches.
Nearby nature reserves are sure to delight the outdoorsy types, including the Belmont Wetlands State Park that spans 549 hectares and bushland, sand dunes and wetlands, plus over 100 bird species, and cycling and mountain biking trails to take it all in.
Or take a trip on the famed Fernleigh Track. Winding through tranquil bushland, heritage railway relics and Fernleigh Tunnel, this track is a former rail corridor that passes through a number of nearby suburbs, Aboriginal artwork and Glenrock State Conservation Area, Awabakal Nature Reserve, Belmont Lagoon Reserve and the previously mentioned Belmont Wetlands State Park. You can even then continue along the Fernleigh Awabakal Shared Track, the scenic extension of the Fernleigh Track that combines to make a 27-kilometre transport route.
For a more relaxed option, soak up the lakeside views from one of the many restaurants and cafes in the area, including those surrounding the lake itself. Among the many bird and animal species that call this area home, keen eyed observers may even catch a glimpse of the dolphins and green sea turtles!
