According to the SDA design standard, it is mandatory for SDA developers to engage an accredited third-party SDA assessor during both the design and final construction stages of a dwelling development.
The SDA assessor is solely authorised to issue a certificate of SDA category compliance, confirming that the design or final construction of the dwelling meets all the requirements outlined in the SDA Design Standard.
The assessment conducted during the design stage aims to provide assurance to the SDA market regarding future enrollment opportunities and allows for the necessary preparations to be made for dwelling enrollment with the NDIA. Once the final construction of the dwelling is assessed and found to be compliant with the SDA design standard, the SDA provider can proceed to enroll the completed dwelling with the NDIA.
Details of the project at the design stage will be recorded by the NDIA and included in data releases to inform the market about the ongoing development work. It’s important to note that any commercially sensitive or identifying information will be safeguarded to maintain confidentiality.
